Voting to defeat a time sensitive and likely essential piece of legislation just so you can tell your small-town constituents you stood up to Wall Street and “Fat Cats” makes about as much sense as an oncologist withholding a cancer diagnosis so that the patient will still like her.
I realize the package was complex and the mechanics of the commercial credit system aren’t easily compressed into sound bites for the union hall or road side diner. That is why we have a representative democracy. Congress is expected to act in the best interest of those they represent and when they don’t because they think they can have their cake and eat it too they are
sacrificing the interests of their district for their own vanity.
Beyond the fact that this behavior is selfish it is also insanely shortsighted. How many voters will support you once they lose their home and job?
